JESUS & Co. (#4): Robot Train Page 2

  ~

On the other side the team of seven landed on a rocky ledge looking out into blackness. They were greeted by fierce winds and falling snow. The night sky hindered their view further, but a woman wrapped from head to toe in woolen garments shouted over the wind that there was indeed in the valley below a train chugging along and it would be visible any minute.

“What’s your name,” Thomas asked the woman.

“Private Esther, but call me Essie please.”

“Essie, nice to meet you. What’s the plan from here?”

  “Job didn’t tell you?”

Thomas looked to Job who looked back to Essie.

“On the other side of the valley is a metal bridge. It’s huge and supported by metal trusses. Massive stone foundation. Spreads out over the Danube for two miles.”

  “And?’ Thomas asked.

“We need to blow that bridge!”

With more excitement than Thomas was ready for Essie pulled out a map and a little light showing them their current location, where the bridge was and where the train should be.

“The train is going to be long. Since this is the only river crossing for hundreds of miles everyone wants to tag along when a royal train makes the journey. The prison car is probably at the end of the train. It’s going to be dangerous. Lots of bad guys down there.”

“Whoa, whoa, whoa, what do you mean down there?” Luke asked.

“Someone’s got to set the dynamite.”

“And that’s our job?” Elijah chimed in.

“It ain’t gonna set itself now is it?”

“C’mon. Let’s get going,” Thomas said. “How do we get down there?”

  “There’s a path over”

“Can’t you use your portal thingy?” Isaac asked Job.

“I…suppose I could,” Job scratched his head. He worked the portal device and a blue oval appeared.

“That’s what I’m talking about,” Luke said as he jumped through.

“Be careful they don’t see you or your portal!” Essie yelled as the rest of the team shuffled through. “And hurry!”
